amy hughes — 29 Jul 2006 Life Update Moving can be a difficult time, whether it is from one house to another, another town, another state, or in our case even further. The first couple of months were eye-opening. "I'm REALLY HERE!" and ...
Whether you've stumbled across the website, stumbled into me on my travels, are a returning fan, or were coerced by me to take a look, welcome. This website chronicles the big trip I have just finished and the next ones to come.
In May 2004 I made a break for it and headed abroad to travel, to simply live for a year. At least that's how it started.
The Plan: to take a small amount of money, buy my 1st ticket, pack up/sell everything & leave, slowly working my way around the world.
In June of 2003 I spent 2 beautiful weeks in Ireland. I met another woman traveler who was traveling around Ireland alone, then meeting up with friends later in her trip. American culture had taught me to be scared, quiet, timid of traveling, especially if you are female. What she was doing was unheard of to me. She was a school teacher taking her summer break off and traveling around, nothing really out of the ordinary, except that she was doing it alone.
When I returned home I found that I was just not satisfied with the direction of the job market or my career. I was getting burnt out of trying so hard and finding no results. By August I had made up my mind, I set a date. After telling a dozen or so people, it became a challenge. To me it is unbelievably scary, but incredibly exciting. I took a desk job to save some money, with ticket bought the beginning of my journey was May 5th, 2004.
Now with the first leg of this trip is completed I have an even stronger desire to get out there again. This is your chance to live vicariously! Follow me around the world from your computer, or better yet come join me.
